Fishing starts on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th. The best of the fishing is From May to September. The Rivers in the Boyne valley have all the usual hatches associated with limestone rivers. The fly life is very similar to the United States. The Trouts Diet consists of Caddis, Mayflies, Blue Winged Olives, Pale Morning Duns, Midge, Hawthorn flies, Alder's. Moths,Shrimps and Minnow's. All the fishing is privately Owned, some controlled by Angling clubs/Associations and Individual Owners. You can Obtain a Permit/Day tickets from your Guide, Lodge, Local Pub, Some Post office's and tackle shops.

Equipment

A 9' for a 5WT Line is best for the River Boyne. A shorter 3WT rod is ideal for the Smaller streams. A floating line is all that is required. Useful accessories are Strike Indicators such as Bio Strike and a fly drying agent such as Top Ride by Loon Products.

Flies

CDC Shuttlecock's,Sedgehog's, F flies, Wulff's, Elk Hair Caddis, Klinkhamers, Bead Head Hares ear nymphs and Pheasant tail's are all useful flies. The fly fisher should pack a lightweight breathable chest wader, waterproof jacket, A hat to protect your face from sunlight and flies, polarized sunglasses to help you see fish and where to put your feet in the river while wading and finally a strong folding Wading staff.

Hotel Pick up/Drop off's can be arranged. G Loomis and Sage flyrods can be hired for only 15 Euro per day.
