The region is only a one-hour drive away from Dublin airport and ferry port.
Your Guide is a skilled angler for salmon and trout and an experienced flytyer, John learned his trade as a Guide in the West Of Ireland Fisheries of Delphi & Burrishoole, He now offers guided flyfishing on the River Boyne and its tributaries.

The Brown Trout Range in size from 8" to 16" + , some 5lb trout are caught each season. We use Size 12 to 22 Dry flies and Nymphs fished on 12-18 Foot 5X to 8X.

Fishing starts on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th.
The best of the fishing is From May to September. The Rivers and streams in the Boyne valley have all the usual hatches associated with limestone rivers. The fly life is very similar to the United States.
The Trout's Diet consists of Caddis, Mayflies, Blue Winged Olives, Pale Morning Duns, Midge, Hawthorn flies, Alder's. Moths, Shrimps and Minnow's.
All the fishing is privately Owned, some controlled by Angling clubs/Associations and Individual Owners. You can Obtain a Permit/Day tickets from your Guide, Lodge, Local Pub, Some Post office's and tackle shops.

Equipment
A rod 8-9ft for a 3-5WT Line is best for the River Boyne. A shorter 3WT rod with a soft action is ideal for the Smaller streams. A floating line is all that is required. Useful accessories are Strike Indicators such as Bio Strike, a fly drying agent such as Top Ride by Loon Products & a small forceps for debarbing & removing hooks.

Successful patterns are CDC F flies, Klinkhamer/Pinkhamer, Sedgehog, CDC F flies, Bead Head Hares ear nymphs, Bead head Pheasant tail's & Polish/Czech Nymphs.

With regard to clothing, we do alot of wading so you will need a lightweight breathable chest wader & waterproof jacket, A hat and polarized glasses to protect your face from sunlight and flies.

Accommodation

Comfortable accomodation can be arranged in the nearby picturesque Town of Trim. Prices per person B&B range from 35 to 150 Euro, depending on what type you require.
